How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Android

Grab a long page in a single image using Capture more, Scroll capture or the Scroll button.

Quick answer

Take a normal screenshot, then look at the preview. On Pixel tap Capture more, on Samsung tap the scroll-down (Scroll capture) icon, and on Xiaomi tap Scroll. Keep tapping or let it scroll until you have the whole page, then crop and save.

Key points
  • Start with a normal screenshot, then extend it from the preview
  • Pixel and stock Android call it Capture more
  • Samsung calls it Scroll capture (enable Smart capture if missing)
  • Xiaomi shows a Scroll button under the screenshot thumbnail
  • Not every app or screen supports scrolling capture
  • Crop the final long image before saving or sharing

A scrolling screenshot, also called a long screenshot, captures content that runs past the bottom of your screen, such as a full web page, a long chat or an entire settings menu, all stitched into one tall image. Every major Android brand supports it, but each uses a different name and button. The shared idea is the same everywhere: take an ordinary screenshot first, then extend it from the preview that pops up before it disappears.

One honest limitation up front: the feature only works on screens that genuinely scroll, and some apps block it for privacy. If the button does not appear, the app or screen simply does not support it.

How to take a scrolling screenshot on Google Pixel (stock Android)

Google calls this Capture more, available on Android 12 and later.

  1. Open the page you want to capture.
  2. Press Power and Volume Down together to take a normal screenshot.
  3. In the preview at the bottom of the screen, tap Capture more.
  4. Drag the crop handles to select how much of the page to keep.
  5. Tap Save.

How to take a scrolling screenshot on Samsung Galaxy (One UI)

Samsung calls it Scroll capture, part of Smart capture.

  1. Capture a normal screenshot (Power and Volume Down, or a palm swipe).
  2. A small toolbar appears at the bottom. Tap the scroll-capture icon (two downward arrows in a box).
  3. The screen scrolls down and adds the new content to your image. Keep tapping the icon to capture more.
  4. Stop when you have everything, then crop and save.

If the icon does not appear, open Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and make sure Smart capture (or “Show toolbar after capturing”) is turned on.

How to take a scrolling screenshot on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (HyperOS / MIUI)

Xiaomi uses a Scroll button.

  1. Press Power and Volume Down to take a screenshot.
  2. A thumbnail appears in the top-right corner. Tap the Scroll button below it.
  3. The page scrolls automatically. Tap the screen when you want it to stop.
  4. Review the long image, then tap to save or share.
Phone Feature name What to tap
Google Pixel / stock Capture more “Capture more” in the screenshot preview
Samsung Galaxy Scroll capture Scroll-capture icon in the toolbar
Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO Scroll “Scroll” button under the thumbnail
OnePlus Expanded / Scrolling “Scrolling screenshot” prompt after capture

Other brands at a glance

Names vary beyond the big three. OnePlus calls it an Expanded or Scrolling screenshot, Huawei uses Scrollshot, and older LG phones offered an Extended option. In every case the pattern holds: take a normal screenshot, then look for the scroll or expand control in the preview or toolbar that briefly appears. If you dismiss that preview too quickly, you lose the chance, so act before it fades.

Tips for a clean long screenshot

Scrolling captures can get very tall, which makes text small when the image is viewed as a whole. A few habits help. Capture only the section you need rather than the entire page, using the crop handles to trim the top and bottom. Give the page a moment to finish loading before you start, since a half-loaded web page may capture blank areas. And remember that embedded elements like videos or maps often will not stitch neatly.

If your long screenshots and other images are eating storage, our guide to how to clear cache on Android explains how to reclaim space without deleting the photos you want to keep.

When your phone has no built-in option

Some older phones and lighter Android skins never added a scrolling capture tool. In that case a reputable third-party screenshot app from the Play Store can stitch a long image for you. Check its reviews and the permissions it requests first, because screenshot apps can see a lot of what is on your screen. If privacy is a concern, our guide to how to lock apps on Android helps you keep sensitive apps shielded even from screenshots.

Why scrolling screenshots are so useful

A single long image is far easier to share than a dozen separate screenshots. People use them to save receipts and order confirmations, archive a conversation, send a whole article to a friend, or keep a record of a settings page before changing it. Because the feature and its button names differ so much between manufacturers, it is one of the clearer illustrations of how much Android varies by brand; our comparison of Android vs iOS key differences explores that variety further.

Editing and marking up a long screenshot

After you capture a scrolling screenshot, most phones drop you straight into a simple editor before saving. This is the moment to crop tightly, because a long image with empty space at the top or bottom looks untidy and wastes storage. Many editors also offer markup tools so you can highlight a line, draw an arrow, or blur out something private such as an address or account number. If you plan to share the image publicly, take a few seconds to blur sensitive details, since a long capture often includes more than you intended, like the edge of a previous message or a notification.

Saving a long page as a PDF instead

Sometimes a scrolling screenshot is not the best tool. If you want to keep a web page in full, your browser’s Share > Print > Save as PDF option captures the entire page as crisp, selectable text rather than one very tall image. A PDF stays readable at any size and is easier to search later. Use a scrolling screenshot when you need an exact picture of what was on screen, and a PDF when you care more about the text and layout.

When the scroll stops too early

Occasionally a capture ends before the whole page is included. This usually happens because the app reached a section it cannot render into an image, such as an embedded video, a map, or an advertisement, or because the page kept loading new content as you scrolled. If that happens, try capturing the page in two parts, or scroll a little, let it settle, and capture again. On very long pages, the finished image can also become too large for some messaging apps to send, in which case splitting it into two shorter captures is the practical fix.

A quick note on which phones support it

Built-in scrolling capture is now standard on recent Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Motorola phones, but the exact availability depends on your Android version and skin. Pixel and stock devices need Android 12 or later for Capture more, while Samsung and Xiaomi added their own versions earlier. If your phone is a few years old and shows no scroll option at all, that is the most likely reason, and a trusted third-party app is your fallback. Keeping the system current, as covered across our guides, sometimes adds the feature in a later update.

Once you know your phone’s exact term, whether it is Capture more, Scroll capture or simply Scroll, the whole process takes seconds. For more practical walkthroughs like this one, browse our full Android guides library.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I take a scrolling screenshot?

The option only appears on screens that actually scroll and in apps that support it. If the content fits on one screen, or the app blocks the feature, you will not see a Capture more or Scroll button.

Which Android version added scrolling screenshots?

Google's built-in Capture more arrived with Android 12 on Pixel and stock devices. Samsung and Xiaomi offered their own versions earlier through One UI and MIUI, so the exact history depends on your phone.

Where do scrolling screenshots get saved?

They save to the same place as normal screenshots, usually a Screenshots folder in your Gallery or Photos app. The file is simply taller than a standard screenshot.

Can I take a scrolling screenshot of a chat?

Often yes, if the messaging app allows it. Some apps restrict screenshots for privacy, in which case the scroll option will not appear and you will only capture the visible screen.

My phone has no scrolling screenshot option at all.

Older phones and some lighter skins lack the feature. A reputable third-party screenshot app from the Play Store can stitch a long capture, but check its permissions and reviews before installing.

How do I edit the long screenshot afterward?

Right after capturing, most phones let you drag crop handles to set how much of the page to keep. You can also open the saved image later in your Gallery or Photos editor to trim it.
